Celebration of Birthday of tigers at Nandankanan Zoo
Zoos are uniquely positioned to spread the carefully crafted conservation messages aptly to its captive visitors. As a modest effort Nandankanan Zoological Park is planning an awareness programme on conservation of tiger, with a different flavour to catch the imagination of the visitors. As a part of the Zoo education programme, the birthday of three white tigers would be celebrated on 1st August 2008 starting from 11.30 AM at Nandankanan Zoological Park. The basic objective of this education programme is to generate awareness about the status of the tiger in wild and about its conservation needs. Dr L.A.K.Singh an eminent expert on tiger would try to demystify some of the issues in connection with relocation of tiger at Sariska in form of a " Tiger Talk" .
Three white tigers, `Rishi,' `Sitesh' and `Prachi' would turn 4 on 1st August, 2008. As a part of the celebration the following activities are planned.
1. A display board would be posted at the reception at the gate complex.
2. To generate awareness, general information on the tiger, its present status and its conservation need would be disseminated in form of display boards both in Oriya and English in the enclosure area.
3. Zoo furniture would be introduced as a part of the enclosure enrichment programme and on that day the three tigers would be presented with the zoo furniture as a birthday gift.
4. They would be groomed with a good bath and a special treat by the animal keepers.
5. Because no birthday celebration is complete without a cake, a specially made cake would be cut in presence of the school children and the visitors.
6. A special "Tiger talk" would be delivered by Dr. L.A.K.Singh, Senior Research Officer, O/O. Pr.CCF (WL) & CWLW, Orissa at the conference hall located at the gate complex at 12.00 noon. The focus would be on the conservation need for of Tiger. He would also speak on the pros and cons of recent Tiger relocation at Sariska.
7. The initiative would be formally launched by the principal Chief Conservator of Forest and the Chief Wild life Worden of Orissa at 11.00 AM at Nandankanan.
